D. Wade Daniel is a U. S. Navy veteran having joined the Navy on August 3, 1977. He took his boot camp training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois and went to ETA (Radar School) immediately following boot camp and graduated in August 1978. From there he was assigned to temporary duty aboard the USS Peterson, DD-969 home ported in Portsmouth, Virginia until December 1978. Daniel then went to Nuclear Power School, Orlando, Florida from December 1978 until July 1979 and then to TSEC KW-26 .C. School in Fort Gordon, Georgia from July 1979 until September 1979. During the .Iran hostage conflict. Daniel was assigned to Bahrain off of the coast of Saudi Arabia in the Persian Gulf from September 1979 until October 1980. He then returned to Fort Gordon, Georgia and attended KW-7 .C. School from October 1980 until December 1980 and was then assigned to the USS Bigelow, DD-942 which was home ported in Mayport, Florida until September 1982. He then was transferred to AIMD Naval Air Station Oceania, Virginia Beach, Virginia until his discharge in August 1983 after having served 6 years. For his service in the Navy, Daniel was awarded the Navy Expeditionary Medal and the Navy Good Conduct Medal.

Daniel joined the American Legion Post 52 and has had nine years of continuous service. During this time he has served on many committees and as the Post.s First Vice Commander and as Executive Committeeman. He has also been in the 40/8 for 6 years and has served as Correspondant Locale, and as Grande Cheminot. He has also been a member of the VFW for 2 years.
