Howell Lee Jones is a U. S. Army Veteran having served from March 1948 to March 1952. During this time he spent 2 years in Japan and 1 year in Korea while in the Korean War. He obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant and served as messenger for his platoon leader, was a Squad Leader and Platoon Sergeant. Being wounded during the Korean War, while serving in the First Cavalry, Jones was presented with the Purple Heart.
He joined American Legion Post 52 in 1953 and has had continuous service since that time. During his time in the Legion he has worn many hats serving as District Vice Commander, Post 52 Commander for two terms during the years 1997-98 and 1998-99, has served on the Post Rifle Squad since 1998, the Executive Committee and as post chef since 2008. Jones was named Legionnaire of The Year in 2001.
